MCGILL UNIVERSITY is withholding student fees from RADIO MCGILL student/community station CKUT/MONTREAL until it agrees to remove MCGILL's name from the station. The MCGILL DAILY reports that the school is refusing to turn over the C$4/student fee to the station until a Memorandum of Agreement is signed, citing concerns over the university's possible implied liability for the station's operations.
CKUT needs a member vote in order to make the name change; a general meeting is scheduled for TUESDAY (9/25) to vote and to approve the agreement, but the Board of Governors of the station must then execute the agreement at an OCTOBER 20th meeting, causing an additional delay in the transfer of the $140,000 in student fees.
