Condolences to family and friends of veteran LOS ANGELES newsman and critic GARY FRANKLIN, who died TUESDAY, according to an e-mail sent to his blog readers by his daughter DARYLE ESSWEIN. 

Born in LEIPZIG, GERMANY, from which he and his family escaped NAZI persecution and settled in NEW YORK, FRANKLIN was best known for a long stint as reporter and movie critic for ABC O&O KABC-TV and CBS O&O KNXT (TV) and as a reporter for WESTINGHOUSE News KFWB-A. Before his arrival in LOS ANGELES, FRANKLIN worked at ABC NEWS, WESTINGHOUSE News-Talk WIND-A/CHICAGO, and WESTINGHOUSE News KYW-A/PHILADELPHIA.
