As tipped yesterday on ALL ACCESS (NET NEWS 10/11), at 7a(ET) this morning, CITADEL AC WSUY (SUNNY 96.9)/CHARLESTON has flipped and gone Country as, "96.9 THE WOLF WITH THE MOST COUNTRY MUSIC." Yesterday WSUY had been running promos urging listeners to switch to Top 40 WSSX.
ALL ACCESS has confirmed that CITADEL's current CHARLESTON Country, WNKT PD BRIAN DRIVER will take the helm of the WOLF as PD and they will carry both signals, at least for for now. WNKT is at 107.5 FM and licensed to RIDGEVILLE, SC, which is 45-miles from CHARLESTON.
Southeast CITADEL Regional President PAUL O'MALLEY said: "The popularity of Country Music in the Low Country is unparalleled, and this station will undoubtedly become the most listened to Country station in a very short period of time. CITADEL has the resources, the personnel and the commitment to making this another in a long line of successful country formats within the company."
96.9 THE WOLF is currently running without jocks, running 5,000 songs in a row, commercial free -- so does this mean that the WNKT air-staff will just shuffle to THE WOLF? We'll have details as soon as they become available.
Meanwhile Down The Hall
Market insiders are hearing a slight shift in the music on Top 40 WSSX, with artists like KANYE WEST, 50 CENT and SOULJA BOY no longer in the mix as they "welcome former SUNNY listeners."
