The fires may be going out in SAN DIEGO, but the recovery has just begun. With that in mind, area radio stations have been actively trying to raise money and other donations to speed the healing process -- as well as a special SAN DIEGO native close to ALL ACCESS' heart.
Blazin' Bucks Stop Here
MEC NETWORK Top 40/Rhythmic XMOR (BLAZIN’ 98.9)/SAN DIEGO has launched "BLAZIN’ BUCKS for FIRE-AID 2007." Morning duo BAKA BOYZ launched the fund-raiser on-air FRIDAY morning, and listeners began texting donations in support. Text partner mSnap have waived any cost and the station is additionally rewarding listeners who give, with the chance to receive too, as a thank-you.
"This station fund-raising initiative gives our listeners the chance to join the SAN DIEGO fight-back in a tangible way simply by doing what they love -- SMS texting," stated OM/Brand & Marketing LEE CORNELL. "Texting our 'FIREAID' code instantly turns every cent of the $1.99 call, excluding the listener’s standard carrier fee, into 'BLAZIN’ BUCKS' for our 'FIRE-AID 2007' fund in support of the SAN DIEGO AMERICAN RED CROSS.
"Every text, every donation, every day, is instantly in a daily draw for "BLAZIN' BUCKS" thank-yous of CDs, iPODS, and concert tickets," adds Promotions Manager CHRISTINA CRUZ. "Our advertisers are rallying with a major prize of a 'Mexican Holiday Getaway' donated by local travel operator."
Auction Central
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream KHTS/ SAN DIEGO has decided to hold an auction, with all money raised going to benefit the fire victims. The labels have been quite supportive in sending the station autographed CDs and merchandise, but APD/MD HITMAN HAZE tells ALL ACCESS that they're looking for more. The auction will take place next FRIDAY, NOV. 2nd.
Don't Forget The Firefighters
Last but not least, LIFELINES contributor (and former KHTS PD) DIANA LAIRD is collecting CDs to donate to the firefighters --and she'd greatly appreciate contributions from any and all record people who are reading this. "I will tell them it's compliments of your label. Since I don't know their tastes in music, I am looking for anything -- except PLEASE don't send singles.
