CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WGCI/CHICAGO has debuted a new station-branded social networking site entitled “THE BLOCK.” It’s similar to MYSPACE and FACEBOOK and will be focused on the local CHICAGO community.
Listeners can access THE BLOCK via their website, theblock.wgci.com and then create a custom profile with HTML codes. They can upload pictures, music videos, blogs and other WGCI listeners. The station began promoting THE BLOCK with on-air mentions and special promotions. The current promotion allows listeners to sign up for THE BLOCK and participate in a designated-caller contest and qualify to win cash and other prizes.
“I am really excited about the launch of our new social network, THE BLOCK,” said WGCI PD KRIS KELLEY. “We already have over 3,500 members and that number just keeps growing every day. One of our members lives in PARIS. I’m excited about the potential of the online community that we’re building. THE BLOCK is hot.”
