The budgetary axe is swinging big-time at CLEAR CHANNEL stations in the DETROIT and YOUNGSTOWN clusters. At last word, at least 17 staffers have been laid off of the MOTOR CITY cluster.
It started with the earlier-reported exits of CLEAR CHANNEL Sports WDFN-A/DETROIT morning hosts JAMIE SAMUELSON, GREG BRADY and MATT SHEPHARD and promotions director DREW NICHOL. Mornings on WDFN will now be covered by FOX SPORTS RADIO, with middayer SEAN BALIGIAN expanding an hour to run 8a-noon.
At the same time, sister Country WDTW has cut ERICKA LYNN from middays, and moved ROB GRAMM from nights to the MOJO IN THE MORNING show at sister Top 40/Mainstream WKQI. Handling his old nights gig will be BROADWAY, who'll voicetrack it from his nights gig at cross-state sister Country WBCT/GRAND RAPIDS. No one has been announced as LYNN's replacement at 'DTW.
Also out the door at the cluster are long-time WKQI production ace MARC MITCHELL, WMXD Promotion Dir. SAMANTHA AARON, WJLB Prod Asst. TRACEY THORN and WDFN voice guy WDFN DARRIN BREGE.
Youngstown BluesSimilar multiple staff cuts have impacted CLEAR CHANNEL/YOUNGSTOWN. News WKBN-AM, afternoon-drive co-host CASEY MALONE, Oldies WBBG middayer JERRY GODDARD and cluster engineer MIKE HEIM are all budge-cut victims. Their duties will be absorbed by others on staff.
