The exclusive sales of the EAGLES’ "Long Road Out of Eden" in WAL-MART stores reportedly has sold more than 700,000 units in its first week of release. Because WAL-MART offered ot provide SoundScan its sales data, BILLBOARD has decided to revise its SoundScan charts and make it the #1 album for the week. This will be the first time BILLBOARD will allow exclusive album titles that are only available through one retailer to appear its charts, effective with this week's charts.
"We were confident that EAGLES fans would embrace ‘Long Road Out of Eden’ but it has exceeded our first-week projections," stated said WAL-MART SVP/Entertainment GARY SEVERSON. "We’ve notified the RIAA of the sales to quickly certify 'Long Road Out of Eden's' multi-platinum status. With the holiday season approaching we are confident that the double CD package will be one of the biggest sellers in WAL-MART history."
However, there are rumors running rampant, all unconfirmed so far, that a significant number of EAGLES' CDs were purchased by other retailers and then resold, causing the same CDs to be double-scanned.
