CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ/TAMPA's HANNAH-mania makes it to the local papers for great coverage. THE TAMPA TRIBUNE writes that on WEDNESDAY (11/14), after clinging to a statue of HANNAH MONTANA for more than 150 hours, JODY POWELL of PORT CHARLOTTE was declared the winner of the WFLZ, 93.3 FM, contest.
LARA PADGETT of TAMPA let go of the statue while adjusting her T-shirt.
POWELL said then he would share the prize with PADGETT. POWELL would get the four tickets to MONDAY's show, PADGETT would get the backstage passes, and they would split $5,000.
By today the deal was off.
"I was planning on sticking to it until I heard her talking trash about me on the news," POWELL said in a telephone interview from his home. "I'm not sure what's going on right now."
On the air TODAY with morning host TODD "MJ" SCHNITT, POWELL said he would keep the contest tickets and the $5,000 and give PADGETT the backstage passes. Later in the day, even that had changed. "I'm still undecided if she gets the meet-&-greets on MONDAY," he said FRIDAY afternoon.
PADGETT says she didn't say anything bad regarding POWELL to anyone. "I was totally shocked [by him]. I don't disrespect anybody," she said FRIDAY.
MJ said he's staying out of it. "I decided that I was not going to be a part of any deal brokering; that's in their hands," he said. "JODY is the definitive clear-cut winner."
Either way, PADGETT is still going to the show. Before beginning the HANNAH MONSTROSITY contest, she's had paid $1,000 for four tickets to the show. And on MONDAY when more concert tickets went on sale, her cousin was able to purchase four more. "He can have the tickets, and we don't need the money. Hopefully, this can help him," she said. "I wish this was done with."
