U.K. radio regulator OFCOM slaps UTV Sports TALKSPORT/LONDON with a censure for allowing controversial politician, MP and talk show host GEORGE GALLOWAY to announce his candidacy for Parliament in a new district.
GALLOWAY told listeners in an AUGUST 10 fill-in show that he would stand against incumbent MP JIM FITZPATRICK in the EAST LONDON constisuency of POPLAR and LIMEHOUSE, ripping FITZPATRICK for his stands on several issues and promising "the mother of all battles" in the next general election. OFCOM said that the broadcast broke the rules on ensuring impartiality and came close to drawing a sanction and fine because alternative views were not represented on the show or any other on the station.
