The CRTC has rejected the applications of BURLINGHAM COMMUNICATIONS' Jazz CIWV (THE WAVE 94.7)/HAMILTON-BURLINGTON, ON for new relay transmitters at OTTAWA and PETERBOROUGH. The applicant argued that the station should be allowed to evolve into a regional service because it plays music otherwise unavailable elsewhere in the province, but the Commission ruled that using the proposed frequencies for that purpose would not be the best use of the channels.
The CRTC also approved CTV Oldies CJCH-A/HALIFAX' move to FM with 100,000 watts at 101.3 FM. The station will retain its format; CTV also owns Hot AC CIOO (C100 FM) in the market, as well as 50% of Classic Hits CKUL (KOOL 96.5 FM), which is managed by 50% partner NEWCAP, and CTV says that it wil divest its interest in CKUL to bring itself into compliance with the two-FM ownership cap.
And the Commission also rejected COCHRANE POLAR BEAR RADIO CLUB's application for a new low-power community station at COCHRANE, ON, saying that the applicant failed to provide enough information about the proposed service.
