IKE TURNER, the pioneering musician and former husband of TINA TURNER, has died at his home in SAN DIEGO at the age of 76. TURNER, a member of the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, passed away this morning, according to the ASSOCIATED PRESS, but no further details were released.
TURNER's legacy as a musician - he wrote and played on JACKIE BRENSTON AND HIS DELTA CATS' "ROCKET 88," sometimes credited as the first rock record, and wrote and performed several hits with TINA -- was later overshadowed by reports of his turbulent personal life with TINA, accusations of domestic violence, and a drug conviction. He won a solo Grammy in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album ("RISIN' WITH THE BLUES").
