A head-on collision in DEERFIELD BEACH, FL left one woman dead, two women in critical condition and one woman in serious condition SUNDAY. Two were relatives of PAUL CASTRONOVO, the host of the morning radio show "The PAUL and YOUNG RON Show" on CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock WBGG (BIG 105.9)/MIAMI, reports THE MIAMI HERALD.
His mother, VIRGINIA CASTRONOVO, 72, and his wife, REGINA "GINA" CASTRONOVO, 45, were returning home from a family trip to DISNEY WORLD. A PONTIAC VIBE heading in the opposite direction veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into their TOYOTA CAMRY, said KEYLA CONCEPCION, a BROWARD Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
"The whole thing was really scary," CASTRONOVO said SUNDAY night outside the NORTH BROWARD MEDICAL CENTER Emergency Room.
The crash killed IDA HALDERN, 95, the passenger in the VIBE, and sent driver CYNTHIA MEHLMAN, 70, and both CASTRONOVO women to the hospital, CONCEPCION said.
Doctors told CASTRONOVO his wife and mother are recovering. CASTRONOVO said he was able to speak with his wife after she underwent two hours of "life-threatening surgery" for internal injuries. She is in critical condition.
