MICHAEL HIRSCHORN, the VH1 programming chief responsible for the network's hits like "Flavor of Love" and "I Love New York," is close to leaving the network, THE NEW YORK POST reports. According to two sources close to the situation, HIRSCHORN, a VH1 EVP, has been in discussions with several rival networks and independent production studios, and is said to be in advanced talks with publicly traded BRITISH company RICOCHET, which owns several production houses.
"[MICHAEL] had a lot to do with breaking VH1 out from under MTV's shadow," said HORIZON MEDIA RESEARCH's BRAD ADGATE. "At first, the advertising community had concerns about its branding, but now it seems to have found a niche and established an identity. For certain viewers it has at times become a destination network."
