At 5:20a this morning (1/25) CUMULUS Alternative WNNX (99X)/ATLANTA ended its long run on 99.7 by playing GREEN DAY "Good Riddance -- Time Of Your Life" as its last song. 99X programming continues to stream on 99.7 HD2 and the new 99X.com site is up and running.
This means Top 40 WWWQ (ALL THE HITS Q100) and the BERT MORNING SHOW are finally at their new home, 99.7, on a permanent basis, following a week of morning simulcasting on 100.5 and 99.7.
So what's going on at 100.5? At 10a some stunting began with "ATLANTA's RADIO IDOL! "Listeners can vote on the new format on a local phone line (404) 497-4847. There are 30-second tongue-in cheek suggestions: Silence Channel, Comedy Channel, Sound Effects Channel, Sleepy AC Channel, Projectile Rock Channel, Classic Light Hits, and Country & Western Channel teasers have been heard, so far.
So, what will the final format at 100.5 be? Speculation still running rampant about a Rock direction with former WKLS (96 ROCK) personalities THE REGULAR GUYS as the morning cornerstone. The other school of thought has it as a Hot AC starring STEVE & VIKKI, last at crosstown WSTR (STAR 94).
