As tipped FRIDAY on ALL ACCESS (NET NEWS 2/1), GREATER MEDIA AAA WBOS/BOSTON is making some format adjustments, taking WBOS back to its "musical" roots" with "RADIO 92.9" -- keeping with the WBOS philosophy that "the music is all that matters." The station said in a statement that, "We felt the new name and logo would best reflect the station's music and attitude as we evolve to meet the needs of the next generation of WBOS listeners."
RADIO 92.9 is a mass-appeal Alternative Rock station that plays a combination of alternative gold, along with today’s rock and alternative. The station will be hyper-focused on music with much less talk. WBOS told ALL ACCESS, "when we looked at the current WBOS playlist and the overall BOSTON market, we saw an opportunity to cater to our 25-34 listeners with more rock and less pop crossover. It's a great opportunity for us to fill a void on the BOSTON radio dial. Examples of artists we will play on WBOS will include PEARL JAM, U2, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, BOB MARLEY and GREEN DAY.
Morning host GEORGE KNIGHT will continue to do his SUNDAY morning show. Afternooner JOHN LAURENTI and night host DOMINICK LEWIS exit.
DANA MARSHALL loses the "Interim" from her title and becomes PD. She will not be on the air (DANA had been doing middays).
