Condolences to family and friends of CANADIAN radio pioneer ALLAN WATERS, who died SATURDAY morning at 84.
WATERS bought CHUM-A/TORONTO in 1954 (flipping it to Top 40 in 1957) and grew the CHUM GROUP into a radio and TV empire stretching acorss the country. WATERS stepped down from CHUM's board in OCTOBER; he also served as a director of CTV, President of the CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS and CENTRAL CANADA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION, and Chairman of the RADIO SALES BUREAU. WATERS' son JIM is currently Chairman of CHUM LTD.
