HOWARD STERN's publicity blitz for his move to SIRIUS continues this week with articles in NEWSWEEK and NEW YORK magazine giving the host's vision for his new satellite channels. STERN tells NEWSWEEK that he doesn't need the conflicts with authority that have been his stock in trade on terrestrial radio ("People have said to me, 'The FCC is such a good foil for you. You need it.' It's such bullshit... my act isn't about saying the FCC sucks. It never has been. It's about going out and talking to people in a real way."
...my act isn't about saying the FCC sucks.
STERN, objecting to the "shock jock" label, tells the magazine "If I just went on the air and did shocking things, the show would be over in a month. It's not about someone getting naked in a studio for me. It's about what drives a person to get naked in a studio, who the hell they are and what makes them tick. It's about honesty." Still, STERN told NEWSWEEK he plans to resurrect his "It's Just Wrong" and "Bathroom Olympics" games and is considering a camera in a bathroom reserved for his "wack packers." And in NEW YORK, STERN, peppering his comments with the traditional words-you-can't-say-on-the-radio, mentions more segments and shows that he's previously discussed, including "Confessions from the Bunny Ranch" (putting a mic in a room at a NEVADA brothel), "I Want to F--k a Porn Star" (a game show with the titular payoff), and a return of "LEsbian Dating Game" that will air the sounds of the happy couple having sex in the studio. THe article also has STERN commenting on the already-airing "TISSUE TIME WITH HEIDI CORTEZ" (nightly phone sex) and "CRACK WHORE VIEW" (the topics discussed on TV's "THE VIEW" dissected by prostitutes).
STERN's interview with ED BRADLEY aired on SUNDAY's "60 MINUTES," and a taped interview will appear on FOX NEWS CHANNEL's "THE O'REILLY FACTOR." A "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" appearance this month is also on tap; STERN's last day at WXRK/NEW YORK and in syndication is on DECEMBER 16, although "best ofs" will continue through the year's end.
