The 2008 RADIO-MERCURY AWARDS has named DEUTSCH LOS ANGELES Pres./Chief Creative Officer ERIC HIRSHBERG as the Chief Judge for radio’s premier creative competition. HIRSHBERG, a member of the American Advertising Federation’s Hall of Achievement, built DEUTSCH LOS ANGELES from a "boutique" shop with just 10 employees and $2 million in billings in 1997 into a national agency with nearly 350 employees, topping $1 billion in billings.
"ERIC is a creative driving force in the advertising community, and with the MERCURY AWARDS taking place in LOS ANGELES, we couldn't think of a better creative talent to lead this year’s group of judges," noted RAB Pres./CEO JEFF HALEY. "Great radio creative requires outstanding talent. The RADIO-MERCURY AWARDS are a way to encourage, recognize, and reward the creative practice of Radio commercial writing and producing."
"Doing great radio has the highest degree of difficulty in the business, because the idea has no visuals to hide behind," HIRSHBERG declared. "When done right, radio can be one of the most compelling media because the listener’s imagination is a part of the action. I'm looking forward to hearing the best of the best.”
The RADIO-MERCURY AWARDS recognize and rewards excellence in Radio creative with $165,000 in cash prizes, including the coveted $100,000 Grand Prize. Winners will be announced on MAY 21st at the gala event hosted at the FOUR SEASONS LOS ANGELES HOTEL at BEVERLY HILLS.
