The CRTC rejects GOLDEN WEST BROADCASTING LTD.'s application for a new Country station on 103.7 FM in WINKLER/MORDEN, MB.
GOLDEN WEST already owns three other stations in the immediate area, Country CKMW-A (COUNTRY 1570) and AC CJEL-F (THE EAGLE 93.5 FM)/WINKLER/MORDEN and Variety CFAM (RADIO 950)/ALTONA, and adding another FM would violate the Common Ownership Policy; the CRTC was unpersuaded that the company needed the additional station to compete with cross-border SIMMONS BROADCASTING Country KAOC (MAVERICK 105)/CAVALIER, ND, and noted that CKMW airs a Country format and the company could flip CJEL to Country if it needs to compete with the American signal.
