FCC Dismisses Complaints, Scolds Texas Clusters For EEO Problems

The FCC has rejected GEORGIA EAGLE BROADCASTING's Petition for Reconsideration of the grant of the LAST BASTION TRUST LLC's application to change the frequency of Urban AC WMGL/RAVENEL-CHARLESTON, SC from 101.7 to 107.3 and increase the station's power from 17,000 to 50,000 watts after CITADEL (WMGL's former owner) moved WNKT (then Country in CHARLESTON) to EASTOVER, near COLUMBIA, flipping that staiton to Sports and allowing WMGL to change frequencies. 

GEORGIA EAGLE's petition was filed over a month after the CITADEL/LAST BASTION applications were granted, and the Commission said that GEORGIA EAGLE should have objected informally while the applications were pending rather than wait until it filed its own modification application for its WMCD/CLAXTON, GA (to move to SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC) to do so.

The Commission also dismissed a letter complaint filed by BILL WESTLUND alleging public file and EEO violations at Classic Country KSOK-A and Country KSOK-F/ARKANSAS CITY-WINFIELD, KS as lacking evidence.

And the Commission admonished, but did not fine the CUMULUS cluster in ODESSA-MIDLAND-MONAHANS, TX and the ENTRAVISION cluster in HARLINGEN-BROWNSVILLE, TX for EEO violations. ENTRAVISION, reviewed in a random EEO audit, was cited for not recruiting widely enough for open positions. CUMULUS was cited for failing to list the total number of interviewees as well as the number from each recruitment source for all positions in its public file report, as well as failing to recruit widely enough.
