In the wake of RADIO ONE's sale of Urban AC KRBV (V100)/LOS ANGELES to BONNEVILLE, the entire V100 airstaff will join morning duo CLIFF WINSTON and DIANA STEELE to help bid farewell to V100, following an ALL MUSIC/REQUEST WEEKEND. V100's music is set to continue throughout the day, with BONNEVILLE taking over at midnight on TUESDAY (4/8) morning with a new format (NET NEWS 4/3).
KDAY Grabs Radio One Syndication
Meanwhile, in an intellectual property transfer, crosstown MAGIC BROADCASTING Urban KDAY (93.5) becomes the new home of RADIO ONE syndication in LOS ANGELES, and it becomes "THE BEAT OF L.A. -- NO COLOR LINES." As part of this announcement, KDAY PD/night personality THEO went on the air live at 8a with standup comedienne MONIQUE on KRBV, and then again on KDAY at 10a, for the announcement that she'd be joining KDAY for middays beginning JULY 23rd. It will also be announced that MONIQUE will become a new syndicated program through RADIO ONE SYNDICATION.
Additionally, KDAY will pick up the sponsorship of V100's "SUPERFEST" set for APRIL 19th at the GIBSON AMPHITHEATRE, starring BIG DADDY KANE, MC LYTE, DOUG E. FRESH, BIZ MARKIE, SLICK RICK, and BELL BIV DEVOE. KDAY will be the official radio partner of TV-ONE's "TASTE OF SOUL" in OCTOBER, as well as adding RADIO ONE's DONNIE McCLURKIN, THE SPIRIT OF HIP HOP SHOW and THE TD JAKES MINUTE syndicated shows.
MAGIC BROADCASTING partner ROY LAUGHLIN, also speaking for his partner DON McCOY, told ALL ACCESS, "In addition to these shows, THEO announced that everyone at KDAY was humbled to now be carrying the Urban torch in L.A. in a new win/win relationship with RADIO ONE as they approved the use of the on-air moniker "THE BEAT OF L.A. -- NO COLOR LINES," which ironically was developed by THEO when he was the afternoon host at 92.3 THE BEAT. STEVE HARVEY, MONIQUE, WENDY WILLIAMS, THA GOODFELLAS, THEO, DONNIE McCLURKIN, TD JAKES and THE SPIRIT OF HIP-HOP all on a better KDAY signal on JUNE 1st, with one less competitor in town has to add up to something good."
SYNDICATION ONE President GARY BERNSTEIN commented to ALL ACCESS, "SYNDICATION ONE is so excited to be able to offer one of the hottest females entertainers in the world to syndication. MONIQUE is a radio pro and she will be doing 4 hours of incredible radio daily and all I can say is the phone is already ringing off the hook with stations wanting to get MONIQUE."
