ENTERCOM/NORFOLK and its stations, Hot AC WPTE (94.9 THE POINT), AC WWDE (2WD), Urban AC WVKL 95-7 R&B and Top 40/Rhythmic WNVZ (Z104), helped to raise over $28,000 for the victims of MONDAY’s (4/28) tornadoes in nearby SUFFOLK, VA. The stations conducted an all-day fundraiser on TUESDAY (4/29) at a local furniture store and also solicited donations from listeners.
Two hundred people were injured when three tornadoes touched down in VIRGINIA and left widespread devastation, most of which in the city of SUFFOLK.
The fundraiser created a tremendous response and the donations from the community have not stopped. All monies raised will be donated to the AMERICAN RED CROSS and will be used specifically for the tornado relief efforts.
The radio stations were greatly assisted by News Channel 3, HAYNES and UNILEVER (the parent company of the LIPTON TEA PLANT in SUFFOLK).
ENTERCOM/NORFOLK VP/Market Manager JEFF BROWN commented in a press release, "A state of Emergency was declared in the city of SUFFOLK on MONDAY and on TUESDAY a state of Urgency was declared by our four ENTERCOM/NORFOLK properties. Radio works fantastically in a community where people care and individuals and businesses respond with such generosity and compassion."
