BIG LEAGUE BROADCASTING Sports KFNS-A-F/ST. LOUIS has won a temporary restraining order keeping former afternoon host KEVIN SLATEN from hosting a sports talk show at any rival radio station in the market.
The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH says that ST. LOUIS COUNTY Judge LARRY L. KENDRICK issued the TRO TUESDAY night, pending hearings next WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY (6/4-5). KFNS says that SLATEN, who was fired in APRIL after an incident in which ST. LOUIS CARDINALS pitching coach DAVE DUNCAN was put on the air allegedly without prior permission, is bound by a noncompete clause in his contract from working at a rival station until OCTOBER 5, and specifically lists SIMMONS Sports KSLG-A (TEAM 1380), CBS Talk KMOX-A, CH HOLDINGS Sports KTRS-A, and BONNEVILLE Rhythmic AC WMVN (MOVIN 101.1), which is rumored to be considering a flip to Sports.
The judge added that SLATEN, who says he has an opportunity at an unspecified station and who is suing KFNS for wrongful termination, is free to work at another station in a non-sports role.
