MTV Creates A 'High School Musical' ... For Sears

MTV has teamed up with leading retailer SEARS to launch a new movie musical from the executive producers of "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL." The made-for-MTV flick, entitled "THE AMERICAN MALL," premieres MONDAY, AUGUST 11th at 9p. ET/PT on MTV. A complementary DVD and soundtrack hit stores the next day on AUGUST 12th.

"THE AMERICAN MALL" is directed by SHAWN KU, stars NINA DOBREV ("FUGITIVE PIECES," "DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION"), ROB MAYES and AUTUMN REESER ("THE O.C.," "LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE"). It's the story of a group of young adults who work in a mall over the summer, two of whom are aspiring musicians and singers.

Filmed in SALT LAKE CITY and PROVO, UT, "THE AMERICAN MALL" promises to take product placement to new heights. Several scenes were shot in a local SEARS store; SEARS fashions were integrated into the movie as part of the characters' wardrobes, and extras carry SEARS shopping bags in the background. Co-branded commercials spots will air during the premiere of the movie on AUGUST 11th.
