RADIO ONE Urban WERQ(92Q)/BALTIMORE joins all of us at ALL ACCESS in mourning the sudden death of KHIA '”K-SWIFT” EDGERTON. She died early this morning after a pool accident at her home. The cause of death was unclear, but an autopsy is planned.
EDGERTON had been hosting a party at her house SUNDAY evening and into early this morning. At some point during the festivities, she jumped into her above-ground pool with several other people, and apparently struck her head. KHIA was a BALTIMORE native who was known as the "Club Queen," and introduced a younger generation to the BALTIMORE's club scene. She began working at WERQ 10 years ago as a mixer and worked her way up the ranks.
Five years ago, she began hosting a popular night club music show, which earned her a huge fan base in and around BALTIMORE.
"This is an incredible loss not only for RADIO ONE, but for the entire community and music industry," 92Q PD NEKE HOWSE said. "K-SWIFT was an incredible talent and human being. Not only am I fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her for the past 10 years, but also to be her friend."
"She had an enormous following and meant a lot to the people of BALTIMORE ," said VP/GM HOWARD MAZER. "Her love and passion for everything she did was the key to her success, She was truly a person who both the radio and music industry will miss." K-SWIFT was 29.
