As first tipped on ALL ACCESS last year, UNIVISION has taken over Spanish AC KBRG (RADIO ROMANTICA)/SAN JOSE-SAN FRANCISCO and flipped it to Spanish Oldies as RECUERDO 100.3 on NEW YEAR'S DAY.
Not to be outdone, CLEAR CHANNEL's crosstown KCNL (CHANNEL 104.9) has dumped its Alternative format to go Spanish AC as "LA ROMANTICA."
Regarding the flip to LA ROMANTICA, CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO SVP/Programming MICHAEL MARTIN said, "The demographics of the BAY AREA listener, especially in the SOUTH BAY have changed dramatically in the past few years, and the Hispanic audience has grown exponentially. The need, demand and opportunity to serve that audience is clear to us."
Added CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA RVP KIM BRYANT, "With UNIVISION’s KBRG switch on JANUARY 1 away from the Spanish language Adult Contemporary format, this left a very large, important and loyal audience un-served."
While flipping KBRG, UNIVISION, which closed on its purchase of KBRG and sister Spanish Cumbia KLOK-A, flipped KLOK to Spanish News-Talk.
