Another shocker! CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/NEW YORK PD BOB BUCHMAN will exit the station at the end of his current contract, which runs out in two weeks. BUCHMAN wrote to the staff this morning:
"In the latest ARBITRON PPM Ratings, WAXQ/NEW YORK is #1 in Adult Men by 2 share points and is a tenth of a point away from being #1 in Adults 25-54. As I take in those record-breaking, goal-shattering numbers, I think of what NY GIANT MICHAEL STRAHAN chose to do after winning the SUPER BOWL ring. There's nothing like going out on top, so I've decided to step back and take a deep breath.
I've spoken about this to ROB WILLIAMS and TOM POLEMAN and have decided not to renew my contract when it expires next month. Although I have been blessed to program a radio station every day of the last 30 years, this is the perfect opportunity for me to look at re-location and the bigger picture.
Q104.3 will continue to flourish under TOM's guidance and with the help of APD ERIC WELLMAN. The programming staff I've assembled at Q104.3 is the Classic Rock Dream Team. They, and everyone who works here, are poised for future growth. I am so proud of each of you.
My last official day in the office will be AUGUST 12th, but I can always be reached at bob@bobbuchmann.com. See you throughout the hallways between now and then!"
