R.A.I.N. (RADIO AND INTERNET NEWSLETTER) reports that SOUNDEXCHANGE will begin auditing a number of major webcasters, including such terrestrial powerhouses as CLEAR CHANNEL, BONNEVILLE, SUSQUEHANNA, and COX RADIO INTERACTIVE, all of whom offer webcast streams of broadcasts at select stations. Other companies being audited (per a list supplied by the Copyright Office of the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS) by SOUNDEXCHANGE include REALNETWORKS, AMERICA ONLINE, MTV NETWORKS, MICROSOFT, LIVE365 and BEETHOVEN RADIO.
SOUNDEXCHANGE Executive Dir. JOHN SIMSON has previously stated that the audits, "are intended to ensure that all of the copyright owners and performers whose songs are being streamed are being fairly and appropriately compensated for the use of their recordings."
According to R.A.I.N., the audits will focus on statements of account (company financials, revenue sheets, etc.) from 2002-2004. For more coverage from R.A.I.N., just click here.
