MYSPACE is said to be targeting a launch date of SEPTEMBER 15th for its MYSPACE MUSIC offering, reports MUSICWEEK.COM. The social network site is yet to formally announce a date for the launch of MYSPACE MUSIC, a joint venture music service with UNIVERSAL, SONY BMG and WARNER MUSIC, which will see the introduction of an ad-supported, DRM-free download model.
However, a number of Internet sites claim that it is aiming to launch this MONDAY (9/15), or failing that, later in the month, without repertoire from EMI.
Indie labels are also unlikely to be featured at any great length. No indies were on board at the time of the announcement, although MUSIC WEEK revealed in APRIL that indie association MERLIN is in talks with MYSPACE.
