Mexican billionaire CARLOS SLIM HELU and his family have purchased a 6.4% interest in the NEW YORK TIMES CO. SLIM, a telecommunications mogul whose fortune has been estimated by FORBES at about $60 billion, owns TELEFONOS DE MEXICO, cellular company AMERICA MOVIL, and other companies worldwide. At WEDNESDAY's closing price of $13.96/share, SLIM's stake in the TIMES would be valued at $127 million.
The TIMES owns Classical WQXR/NEW YORK.
