Former STAX RECORDS owner and MOTOWN President AL BELL has been awarded the AHMET ERTEGUN LEADERSHIP AWARD from the RHYTHM & BLUES FOUNDATION at its annual PIONEER AWARDS presentation in PHILADELPHIA.
By honoring BELL with this award, the RHYTHM AND BLUES FOUNDATION recognized his many achievements in the recording industry and in influencing American culture over the past 50 years.
"The RHYTHM AND BLUES FOUNDATION is proud to recognize AL BELL as an industry visionary, leader and successful music executive," commented RHYTHM & BLUES FOUNDATION Chairman KENDALL MINTER. "AHMET ERTEGUN was at the epicenter of the R&B FOUNDATION’s formation and development, and he exhibited the essence of vision, leadership, philanthropy and success. Our selection of AL BELL to be the 20th Anniversary recipient of the AHMET ERTEGUN LEADERSHIP AWARD is in perfect synchronicity. Congratulations AL!"
"With profound gratitude I am honored to receive the AHMET ERTEGUN LEADERSHIP AWARD," BELL observed when he was recognized by Foundation co-founder BONNIE RAITT. "'Thank you' really does not express my feelings for the honor this RHYTHM AND BLUES FOUNDATION has bestowed on me tonight. I am extremely humbled to receive this award, which is named after my mentor, my friend, and a great music man -- possibly the greatest the industry has ever known."
