JOURNAL COMMUNICATIONS has purchased WAUPACA PUBLISHING CO., a group of newspapers and trade publications, for a price estimated at about $7 million. The deal includes WAUPACA, WI-area papers including the WAUPACA COUNTY POST, the CHRONICLE in WEYAUWEGA-FREMONT, the PICTURE POST, and the TRI-COUNTY ADVERTISER, as well as WISCONSIN STATE FARMER, WISCONSIN HORSEMEN'S NEWS, and SILENT SPORTS magazine.
The acquisition, which also includes the publications' associated websites and WAUPACA's commercial printing business and real estate, fits JOURNAL's stated strategy of adding additional print titles within the footprint of its existing properties (which includes the flagship MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL daily paper).
