Condolences to family and friends of longtime U.K. newscaster BOB FRIEND, who died after a battle with a brain tumor WEDNESDAY (10/8) at 70.
FRIEND began his broadcasting career with BBC RADIO 4 in 1969, where he covered NORTHERN IRELAND for four years before being named the BBC's TV news correspondent in AUSTRALIA. He later served in the TOKYO and NEW YORK bureaus before joining SKY NEWS in 1989, where he spent the rest of his career before retiring in OCTOBER 2003. FRIEND received an MBE in 2003 and appeared in the movies "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE" and "INDEPENDENCE DAY."
