Condolences to family and friends of long-time SOUTH DAKOTA outdoorsman and radio and TV host TONY DEAN, who died SUNDAY morning of complications from appendix surgery in PIERRE, SD at 67. DEAN (real name ANTHONY DECHANDT) hosted the regionally syndicated daily radio feature "DAKOTA BACKROADS," aired in the DAKOTAS, MINNESOTA and WYOMING, and TV show "TONY DEAN OUTDOORS." He worked as a press secretary for SOUTH DAKOTA Gov. FRANK FARRAR before moving to the state Game, Fish and Parks Department, where he launched the radio show.
DEAN also wrote a column for the RAPID CITY JOURNAL and was active in DEMOCRATIC PARTY campaigns, most recently campaigning for BARACK OBAMA across the Upper MIDWEST.
