As ALL ACCESS was the first to confirm early TODAY (1/11), CLEAR CHANNEL/WASHINGTON Regional VP BENNETT ZIER has resigned to join RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING, a new radio operation being formed by WASHINGTON REDSKINS owner DANIEL SNYDER, as CEO.
"The chance to be CEO of a new business in a rapidly changing industry is enormously compelling," said AIER in a press release issued WEDNESDAY afternoon. "Add to that the opportunity to work with DANIEL SNYDER, who's such a great entrepreneur, and it's something I could not pass up."
ZIER will partner with SNYDER to buy stations in the WASHINGTON market and elsewhere, with the first apparently MEGA COMMUNICATIONS' Spanish Oldies simulcast WBPS/WARRENTON, VA-WBZS/PRINCE FREDERICK, MD (MEGA CLASICA) and Spanish Regional Mexican WKDL-A/ALEXANDRIA-WASHINGTON, which will be flipped to another format and would become the SKINS' home in 2006, replacing INFINITY Talk WJFK (106.7 FREE FM) as the team's flagship.
Reports of ZIER's impending alliance with SNYDER first surfaced recently and were first reported by DCRTV.COM, which reports that the RED ZEBRA FM stations could partner with CLEAR CHANNEL's Sports WTEM-A/WASHINGTON to cover the whole market for SKINS radio broadcasts, while WKDL remains in a Spanish language format.
"We've been truly fortunate to have someone of BENNETT's caliber for the past 10 years," said CLEAR CHANNEL MID-SOUTH SVP ALENE GREVEY. "We're beginning the search for his replacement immediately."
