The PITTSBURGH STEELERS developed a long-snapper problem SUNDAY when GREG WARREN blew out his knee covering a punt against the NEW YORK GIANTS and it turned out that they had no backup plan for the position. Lnebacker JAMES HARRISON, pressed into duty, sent his first attempt well over punter MITCH BERGER's head for a safety that tied the game and led to a GIANTS victory.
Now, ESPN Sports WEAE-A (1250 ESPN)/PITTSBURGH is trying to help out the hometown team by holding its own open tryouts for a new STEELERS long snapper TUESDAY (10/28), with afternooners SCOTT PAULSEN, MIKE LOGAN and EDDY CROW doing their "THE DRIVE" afternoon show live from GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL's football field.
Speaking of GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL, 1250 ESPN will cover the nationally ranked GATORS in the WPIAL playoffs, with coverage, featuring KEN LAIRD and JIM COLONY at the mic, beginning FRIDAY.
