Condolences to family and friends of CHICAGO radio, TV, and writing legend LOUIS "STUDS" TERKEL, who died TODAY at his home on the city's North Side at 96.
TERKEL, the author of several best-selling books including "WORKING," "THE GOOD WAR" (a PULITZER PRIZE winner in 1985), "DIVISION STREET: AMERICA" and "HARD TIMES," worked at Classical WFMT from 1952 to 1997, with repeats continuing to air as "THE BEST OF STUDS TERKEL." He also was a TV pioneer with his largely-improvised 1949-51 sitcom "STUDS' PLACE," and has a new book scheduled for a NOVEMBER release, "P.S.: FURTHER THOUGHTS FROM A LIFETIME OF LISTENING."
The station celebrated his 96th birthday with special all-day programming on MAY 16th.
