BONNEVILLE Sports WMVN (SPORTS/TALK 101.1)/ST. LOUIS will air SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY men's basketball under a new three-year deal announced by the school. BOB RAMSEY and EARL AUSTIN JR. will call the action, starting with the NOVEMBER 14th game against the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS, putting the games on the air in advance of the JANUARY 1 format flip to Sports from the present stunting with CHRISTMAS music. The BILLIKENS were previously heard on crosstown BIG LEAGUE BROADCASTING Sports KFNS-A-F.
"The BILLIKEN athletic program is thrilled to be partnering with the BONNEVILLE GROUP for play-by-play coverage of men's basketball," said the school's Director of Athletics CHRIS MAY. "(GM) JOHN KIJOWSKI and his team are delivering a first-class sports format to the marketplace, and we are thrilled to be the first team member on board. The 100,000-watt FM signal delivered by FM 101.1 is a major benefit that all BILLIKEN fans will enjoy. We believe the Bonneville partnership will greatly enhance the reach and marketability of BILLIKEN basketball in the region, as our game broadcasts will be heard by many more listeners. I also would like to thank KFNS for its long-time support and promotion of the program. KFNS has been a wonderful partner over the years, and we look forward to continuing to work with KFNS to promote the BILLIKENS."
"We are excited to partner with SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY for the play-by-play rights for BILLIKEN men's basketball," said KIJOWSKI. "There is a rich history of exciting basketball from terrific coaches, including coach RICK MAJERUS. BILLIKEN fans who attend the games will be treated to an incredible new home at CHAIFETZ ARENA, and those that can't attend will be able to hear the games in clear, crisp stereo from as far away as HIGHLAND and JERSEYVILLE, IL, to UNION and SULLIVAN, MO. Exciting BILLIKENS Basketball on 100,000 watts of FM stereo will be a winning combination."
"I couldn't be more enthusiastic about entering into a partnership with SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY," added PD JASON BARRETT. "In the past two years alone, the BILLIKENS have added a proven winner, RICK MAJERUS, to coach their basketball team. Plus, SLU built a state-of-the-art facility in CHAIFETZ ARENA. That type of commitment is what separates the contenders from the pretenders. The same holds true for us here at 101.1. We are currently assembling a great on-air lineup, and we've partnered with the biggest brand in sports in ESPN. To add BILLIKENS basketball to our roster and showcase their product on a powerful 100,000-watt FM sports radio station is great news for all ST. LOUIS sports listeners."
Board Op Joins Up
The station also announced that crosstown CH HOLDINGS Talk KTRS-A morning board operator JOHN BIVER has joined the station as local board op for the syndicated ESPN RADIO "MIKE AND MIKE IN THE MORNING" show.
