Deftones Bassist In Coma After Car Crash

DEFTONES bassist CHI CHENG was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma in a SAN JOSE hospital. The specifics of the incident have not been made public, but band singer CHINO MORENO confirmed CHENG's condition to the SACRAMENTO BEE.

"I don't know everything that's going on -- I just know it's very serious," MORENO said. "I'm on my way to be with his family, I'm pretty freaked out about it."

CHENG, 38, was born in STOCKTON, CA and also is an accomplished poet. THE DEFTONES have been working on its sixth studio album, "Eros," set for a spring 2009 release. The Warner Bros. record label is expected to release a statement on CHENG's condition shortly.
