10 years after the tragedy that promoted the creation of radio's AMBER ALERT system, the U.S. POSTAL SERVICE is issuing a 39 cent stamp honoring the broadcast industry's successful alert program.
FRIDAY's release is the tenth anniversary of the abduction of AMBER HAGERMAN, who was found murdered four days later in ARLINGTON, TX; the alert plan was launched as the AMBER PLAN in NOVEMBER 1996 by DALLAS-FT. WORTH market radio stations, and later spread across the nation and added television, Internet, and highway electronic traffic message board alerts to the system.
