NEW YORKERS will be able to hear plenty of CHRISTMAS music on the radio this year, but it will be a little more elaborately spread out than in past years, writes DAVID HINKLEY in TODAY's NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLTW, which has gone all-CHRISTMAS the last several years, is expected to do so again. But it will have competition from CBS Oldies WCBS-F.
WCBS-F started playing a "Santa Song of the Day" on OCTOBER 1st, using it for a station contest. It also is calling itself the city's radio "Home for the Holidays."
On OCTOBER 13th, WLTW also started a "Santa Song of the Day" contest -- which annoyed WCBS-F enough that CBS lawyers served LITE with a "cease and desist" order.
So LITE is playing a "Stocking Stuffer Song of the Day."
