CUMULUS Country WWWW (W-4)/ANN ARBOR PD/morning personality BRIAN COWAN has told ALL ACCESS about some wonderful community service that the station is doing. W-4 heard of a local soldier, BJ HARLOW, who lost his dad to a farming accident right before he deployed to IRAQ in 2004, where he was stationed in ANBAR Province.
To add tragedy on-top of tragedy, when the soldier returned home on a three-week break in 2007, just before leaving for his new post in KOREA, his ex-wife committed suicide. He buried her and then got on a plane for SEOUL, where he is currently stationed.
COWAN heard of the story from the soldier’s sister at a remote who simply requested a station t-shirt to cheer the young man up a bit. What transpired instead is morning host COWAN (‘BUBBA’) purchased a ticket to go to KOREA to see the soldier and bring some gifts from home. After that a local bank got involved and raised enough money for the soldier’s mom to join the trip to surprise her son.
They will all fly out SATURDAY morning (11/15) and surprise HARLOW at the RENAISSANCE HOTEL in SEOUL, complete with mom and the gifts from home. COWAN said they’d be recording the segment for the W-4 morning show.
