A VENTURA COUNTY jury awarded $553,000 to GOLD COAST RADIO, owner of Regional Mexican KMLA (LA M 103.7)/OXNARD-VENTURA, and promoter UNIVERSO MUSICAL after finding that competitor LAZER BROADCASTING intentionally interfered with GOLD COAST's customers, advertisers and artists. The VENTURA COUNTY STAR reports that the jury returned the verdict after two days of deliberation.
LAZER attorney GREG RAMIREZ told the paper that his client will file a motion with the judge MONDAY to set aside the judgement as unsupported by evidence. "I am shocked," RAMIREZ said, adding that Judge HARRY WALSH was close to dismissing the case last FRIDAY due to lack of evidence. "If there was evidence, I could live with a verdict where there was evidence. To come back with this kind of verdict is very disappointing."
LAZER owns Romantica KLJR (CORAZON 96.7), Regional Mexican KXLM (RADIO LAZER 102.9) and Ranchero KOXR-A (LA MEXICANA) in the market.
