MITCH MITCHELL, the drummer for the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, was found dead, apparently of natural causes, WEDNESDAY in his PORTLAND, OR hotel room. MITCHELL, 61, the last surviving original member of the band, was on tour with the "EXPERIENCE HENDRIX TOUR" and had performed FRIDAY in PORTLAND. His body was discovered by an employee at the BENSON HOTEL early WEDNESDAY.
MITCHELL played with several bands, including the PRETTY THINGS and GEORGIE FAME AND THE BLUE FLAMES, before joining HENDRIX and NOEL REDDING in the EXPERIENCE in OCTOBER, 1966. He had been on the "EXPERIENCE HENDRIX TOUR" with BUDDY GUY, JONNY LANG, ERIC JOHNSON, LOS LOBOS' CESAR ROJAS and DAVID HIDALGO, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, AEROSMITH's BRAD WHITFORD and others at the time of his death.
