CLEAR CHANNEL is moving the format of Sports WTFX-A (SPORTSTALK 610)/WINCHESTER, VA to sister WMRE-A/CHARLES TOWN, WV TODAY (11/17), with the 610 AM frequency of WTFX going dark. The NORTHERN VIRGINIA DAILY reports that WTFX' transmitter site has been sold to become the site of a retirement community, THE VILLAGE AT ORCHARD RIDGE, being developed by a nonprofit group associated with the EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN AMERICA. WMRE drops its "MEMORIES 1550" Adult Standards format in the move.
Cluster VP/Market Manager CHUCK PETERSON said "The AM signal that began as WHPL in 1961 has had an important presence as a carrier of local sports for many years. In continuing our strong commitment to our community and in order to further super-serve the local sports needs in the area, we are glad to be able to move our sports talk programs to another one of our AM signals, 1550."
