JEFF SMULYAN's latest Q-and-A on the EMMIS website discusses the company's position on HD RADIO (they're for it, and format selection by the HD DIGITAL RADIO ALLIANCE "hasn't been difficult at all"), the company's talent development and marketing investment in CHICAGO (the company "felt a certain vindication in our decision" to spend on bringing JONATHON BRANDMEIER to WLUP after the ratings showed growth), the Publishing division's strong third quarter, the sale of the company's TV stations ("we may buy back more stock, or we may invest in radio, publishing or other ventures"), and investments in non-broadcasting enterprises like its participation in SMULYAN's bid on the WASHINGTON NATIONALS ("we think our strengths can transfer into other businesses"). He also says that "it may be three or four months" before the company finds a new CFO.
