CHICAGO PUBLIC RADIO, operator of noncommercial Talk WBEZ/CHICAGO, has laid off 11 full-time staffers, representing 9% of its staff. In addition, some senior staff members have accepted salary cuts.
The moves were forced by "poor financial conditions" including a drop in individual donations and smaller than expected growth in corporate underwriting resulting in a $1.5 million budget shortfall, according to a report on the station's website.
