HALL COMMUNICATIONS Country WCTY/NORWICH raised over $8,000 for a local family dealing with two tragedies in a year at a MONDAY night fundraiser hosted by the station's JIMMY LEHN and SHELLEY MARTINEZ. The entire WCTY staff and other HALL cluster staffers came out to support the GIRARD family of VOLUNTOWN, CT, who have lost a father and son to a drowning accident and lost their house to a fire.
The GIRARD family is receiving a made-over house from ABC's "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" TODAY (12/11) for an episode scheduled for FEBRUARY 9 airing. WCTY (along with sister HALL stations in the market) has been on the house site volunteering at all hours and soliciting for volunteers and trademen over the past week. Including interviewing the designers.
And while in a charitable mood, the station also collected hundreds of toys for the TOMMY TOY FUND, and filled a truck full of non-pershiable food items for the area food bank and promoted the blood drive in VOLUNTOWN this week.
