Using its all-CHRISTMAS music programming as a smokescreen of sorts, SAGA COMMUNICATIONS has tweaked its Classic Hits WOXL/ASHEVILLE, NC to "Light Rock" Mix 96.5. The music mix pf pop and rock hits now run from the late 1960s, through the '70s and ‘80s, to the addition of the 1990s and current hitmakers KELLY CLARKSON, FAITH HILL, DAUGHTRY, JOHN MAYER AND MAROON 5.
The format was switched last week, after the station spent a month playing non-stop Christmas music, said program director and announcer Steve Marcus.
"We have thrown a fresh coat of paint on WOXL, and given it a new name to point that out," PD STEVE MARCUS told the ASHEVILLE CITIZEN-TIMES. "We've added some of the newer sounds of the ‘90s to complement what we were doing. Our market research showed us a desire (by listeners) to include both older and newer music."
