RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING, the new broadcasting venture formed by WASHINGTON REDSKINS owner DANIEL SNYDER and headed by broadcasting exec BENNETT ZIER (see NET NEWS 1/11), today announced that the company has purchased Spanish Oldies simulcast WBPS & WBZS (MEGA CLASICA 94.3 & 92.7) and Reg. Mexican WKDL-A/WASHINGTON, D.C. from MEGA COMMUNICATIONS. RED ZEBRA will be the broadcast home of SNYDER's REDSKINS, managing the broadcast rights to the team starting with the 2006 season.
"I am pleased to have this opportunity with this new company, RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING, to serve and entertain our community and to have the WASHINGTON REDSKINS as part of our programming foundation," said ZIER, RED ZEBRA's CEO. "This is the first of many acquisitions for RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING -- we are in the buying business."
Commented MEGA Pres. ADAM LINDEMANN, "This is an exciting transaction as it will bring a new voice to broadcasting and to the WASHINGTON DC market. We are confident that RED ZEBRA will enjoy the kind of success MEGA has known in the nation's capital."
As for RED ZEBRA's plans for their new stations, in a press release, the company has only said "in the near future, additional decisions about format and programming changes will be made." In other words, stay tuned.
